I fixed by using the following method. Opened the properties and set the screen resolution. Opened firefox and downloaded the old xorg.conf I sent you earlier. Logged out and then back in as root. Used kate to copy the screen layout from the downloaded file to the active = xorg.conf file. Saved and restarted x. Believe it or not, I did need you to walk me through the process.
