 |The canonical test is glxgears, and this is what I get after letting it
 |run a bit:
 |
 |1866 frames in 5.0 seconds = 373.200 FPS
 |1914 frames in 5.0 seconds = 382.800 FPS
 |1912 frames in 5.0 seconds = 382.400 FPS
 |1895 frames in 5.0 seconds = 379.000 FPS
 |
 |This is a 500MHz PII Dell crappy thing; there are machines in the office
 |here that roast mine.

Here's another data point. Just got XFree86 CVS from yesterday built and
installed (and my 4.3-stable kernel tweaked for my MB) such that everything
is stable. With glxgears using the XFree86 DRI mga module and AGP 1x:

    3120 frames in 5.0 seconds = 624.000 FPS
    3120 frames in 5.0 seconds = 624.000 FPS
    3121 frames in 5.0 seconds = 624.200 FPS

and with AGP 4x:

    3197 frames in 5.0 seconds = 639.400 FPS
    3197 frames in 5.0 seconds = 639.400 FPS
    3196 frames in 5.0 seconds = 639.200 FPS

2.5% - not a lot of difference, but this number may still be low for this
box (XFree86 was compiled with the default -g, XFree86 probes my card as a
G400 SDRAM--it's a G450 DDRAM, etc.).

My hardware:
    - Matrox Millenium G450 32MB DDR AGP
    - Asus A7M266 DDR MB
    - Athlon Thunderbird 1.2GHz
