I'm confused -- you mean name-space issues?

The root device name is a uniformity of naming issue when the mounted
device name is copied into the superblock.

I can't believe someone who runs 'df' and 'mount' would find *any*
device name confusing -- a device is a device, it's the major and
minor numbers that are important.
