Wow, it's been just 3 weeks since we had a definitive policy on these things: Breaking some of these rules can be grounds for suspension or, upon repeated offense, permanent removal of commit privileges. 3. Respect existing MAINTAINERs if listed. 5. Any disputed change must be backed out pending resolution of the dispute if requested by a MAINTAINER or the principal architect. 7. Don't fight in public with other committers; it looks bad. If you must "strongly disagree" about something, do so only in private. 9. When in doubt on any procedure, ask first! I'm not directly affected by the major number change, and it's possible it could have been handled better. But what you did was wrong.
