Therefore I can write a book explaining that "2 + 2 = 4, that is if you take two apples and two oranges and put them in a bushel, you have four pieces of fruit in the bushel" and copyright it. If you were to use this passage from that book then you infringe on my copyright, however if you simply state that 2 + 2 = 4 then you do not. Of course I understand that there are some branches of mathematics and philosophy that might argue that 2 + 2 = 4 is not fact... but I digress.
