Hmmm I've removed my mga_hal binary and only got one monitor to work:

(EE) MGA: Failed to load module "mga_hal" (module does not exist, 0)
(==) MGA(1): Matrox HAL module not loaded - using builtin mode setup
instead (EE) MGA(1): This card requires the "mga_hal" module for dual-
head operation It can be found at the Matrox web site
<http://www.matrox.com>; (II) UnloadModule: "mga"
(II) UnloadModule: "vgahw"

so what did you do? ;)
