OK. Thanks for the tips. It then comes down to the issue of how much =20 space do you allocate per partition. My thinking (working on a 3.2GB =20 disk and 72MB ram) is as follows for the system-related stuff: swap - separate slice 150MB (ie: 2x physical ram) / 100MB /usr 500MB /usr/local 350MB /var 250MB /temp 250MB /home & /data would get the remainder. However, I have a funny =20 feeling that the partitions are too small. Equally though, I don't =20 want to waste large tracts of disk space unnecessarily. How much =20 extra should one factor-in for an upgrade, for example? I've got to =20 have a dig around the handbook to see what's recommended, if =20 anything, but comments from people who have running systems would be =20 most appreciated. I'd rather cut the partitions once at install time =20 =2D it's not something that I'd end-up being forced to re-visit due to =20 bad planning. Also don't forget to put /home and /tmp on separate =20 partitions, so 1) fulling /tmp doesn't affect /. 2) You can mount =20 them =20 noexec to add security and prevent things like hard links to =20 /etc/passwd =20 and similar.
