The problem with this is that it assumes no edits to /etc/rc.conf which need to be preserved, and that's something which you just won't be able to guarantee (remember, I'm looking for a general rather than a BEST-specific solution) for some time until the idea of an immutable rc.conf caught on. There have been quite a few ideas tossed around here, however, so I'm certainly going to look at all of them and think about this some more. :-) - Jordan
