You won't need to re-install, but did you create a custom kernel and comment out any CPU types?? This won't cause problems as long as the new CPU is downward compatible, but could be a *real* problem when going the reverse direction (which usually only happens when your boss says you have to give up the department's *fastest* machine that just came in the door and snagged by you ;o) If you did, then before you change the motherboard, uncomment them and build a new custom kernel supporting the new CPU. If you're just running GENERIC, then you won't need to worry about CPU types, but you may have other stuff, like network controller, video, or sound built in that isn't supported. But, of course, that shouldn't keep you from booting, just lose the functions supplied by the unsupported hardware. Most motherboards with I/O features also allow you to disable them, allowing you to put in a supported piece. BTW, the "undisclosed-recipients" in the To: field make you look like a spammer. Please place freebsd-questions@freebsd.org in the To: or CC: fields, not in Bcc: There has been discussion lately about this and I wouldn't be surprised if the list filter soon begins to filter out mail not meeting this criteria (hey, they got my vote, a reasonable accomodattion to prevent spammers from getting thru).
