It has been mentioned several times in Usenet. It became the ``FAQ of the month'' meanwhile... You need to specify ServerNumLock in the keyboard section of your XF86Config file. Somehow on the way between XFree86 3.1 and 3.1.1, servers without ServerNumLock appear to be broken now. Maybe it's related to the last-minute incorporated XConsortium patches. They have not been tested extensively in the XFree86 beta group.
