In most cases, start will fail. >Fix: Login as root, start xdm via console. In most cases, this will start xdm, but I also experienced erratic behaviour and failing starts. I also realized that manipulation (even simply editing comments) in some of xdm's startup files, like "Xservers" or "Xaccess" will make xdm sometimes start. This is not reproducible and erratic.
