Ok...next.

older ssh versions cannot seem to talk to the new openssh 3.1 port.
(from freshly cvs'd versions of the openssh port, from
anoncvs@freebsd.org as well as from my own internal cvs mirror.)

clean, standard install (after patching the makefile for -t rsa1)

max:/home/draistrick%> ssh -V
SSH Version 1.2.27 [i386--freebsd3.3], protocol version 1.5.
Compiled with RSAREF.
max:/home/draistrick%> ssh why.gta.com
Host key not found from the list of known hosts.
Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? yes
Host 'why.gta.com' added to the list of known hosts.
Local: Corrupted check bytes on input.

This happens also with
OpenSSH_2.9 FreeBSD localisations 20011202, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL
0x0090601f

SSH Version OpenSSH_2.3.0 green@FreeBSD.org 20010321, protocol versions
1.5/2.0. Compiled with SSL (0x0090600f).

SSH Version OpenSSH_2.3.0 FreeBSD localisations 20010713, protocol
versions 1.5/2.0. Compiled with SSL (0x0090601f).

That I've tested with.

This is using a stock clean install of the openssh port, with the -t rsa1
added to the makefile. (after killing the old sshd, starting the new, and
of course removing the old host key from ~/.ssh/known_hosts)

Using the new ssh client, it works fine.

suggestions?
