Does that mean you have osf1 loaded as a module? The problem above happens when the module isn't loaded. exec() doesn't recognize the executable and passes it on to sh, which chokes of course. I ran into this when a change to sh broke handling of negations in pipelines, so loading of the module from rc.alpha would fail.
