I would recommend the "LDAP System Administration" book published by 
O'Reilly.  Our LDAP directory currently controls most of the core system 
   for both FreeBSD and Linux Systems (Users/Groups, Mail 
Delivery/Routing, Sudo access rights, SSH Public keys).
