I did on Tue, 25 Apr 2000 23:38:09 -0700: :-) To: Chuck Robey At BSDcon we agreed that (1) the modules need to be built in a subdir of the kernel build dir; (2) they should be installed somewhere where their name matches the kernel name [/modules-kernel, /modules-kernel.old] for instance. The mechanism for finding modules files was never fully flushed out. I've had local changes to do the modules build as part of the kernel build for many months, but I wasn't happy with their cleanliness. I'm not against the principle. Think of my email as more of a bdelinting. > But, like I said, it's not worth any real work now; it's cleaner than it > was, and if it's still got a wart or two, it's going away anyhow. The ability to use a read-only /usr/src has been our charter for a long time. We cannot break that. Also the release build is(was) taring up the .o's in the ssys distribution. -- -- David (obrien@NUXI.com) To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe cvs-all" in the body of the message
