OK. This won't get committed as such. If anything, I may introduce an
automake-devel port. It does complicate things, though.

Please send this as a PR and Cc: alane@freebsd.org or
ports@geeksrus.net. I will take it over and put it in suspend mode until
such time as I other outstanding issues taken care of (like a patch to
remedy to the current auto* braindamage in bsd.port.mk that needs to be
committed but did not make the relase).
