thanks I'll look at it when I get a moment..
in  the mean-while I think both ppp and mpd can talk ppp over sync links
as well, which gives us 3 ways to do it.. 2 of which are
in  the kernel (mpd uses the ng_ppp node to do it)
I guess the advantage of this method is that it's familiar to
people who use sppp.
