You may want to try installing 3.0-release. The 3.0 tree has better
support for devices with sector sizes other than 512 bytes.
At the very least, we'll be better able to help you get your drive working
under 3.0 than under the 2.x branch. (I think, though, that 3.0 should
work for you without modification.)
