I've filed a possible workaround patch for this
compile problem about 12 days ago in PR ports/71803 
<http://www.FreeBSD.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=71803>; . 
I included a URL where this known bug is discussed
at the project's official maillist archives. 
The PR has yet to be assigned, tho. 
My CC of the PR sent to the maintainer has bounced
due to the (political) firewall here at work; I'm
not sure what else I can do to reach them.

The non-devel version of math/pari e.g.

seems to be suffering from the same problem, if
someone can see how to fit the workaround patch
in 71803 onto it (these two ports actually do
conflict with each other, so I have not looked
at the non-devel version).
