I have in the past set up a number of research scenarios where it was desirable to use 'a ton of aliases' to create a ton of subnets, each with different characteristics. These different subnets are in turn routed through different devices downstream based on their subnets. It is very convenient to use a subnet and an alias to pick out a certain pathway through a maze of simulation devices and nodes that are all interconnected.
