A full log (/var/log/XFree86.0.log) might > help. If it helps, I've noticed the same behavior for quite some time on my ATI All-In-Wonder Rage128 Pro Theater AGP 32MB card, using the ati driver. If I restart my computer and load up KDE, glxinfo tells me I have DRI enabled.
