When the system prompts you to enter a password, it does not display any of the characters you type in. You have to enter the password "blindly", which makes it secure - no one can see it if they are looking over your shoulder. This is exactly why you are prompted to enter the password twice when setting it - to ensure that you enter the same string both times and thus avoid any typos and accidentally pressed keys. So, you just have to enter the desired password, trusting your fingers to type what you mean to type :) Then enter it again, and either enter the same, or make the same mistakes, so the system sees the same string. That is all :) G'luck, Peter --=20 Peter Pentchev roam@ringlet.net roam@FreeBSD.org PGP key: http://people.FreeBSD.org/~roam/roam.key.asc Key fingerprint FDBA FD79 C26F 3C51 C95E DF9E ED18 B68D 1619 4553 What would this sentence be like if pi were 3? --Bu8it7iiRSEf40bY Content-Type: application/pgp-signature Content-Disposition: inline -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (FreeBSD) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iEYEARECAAYFAjyDvIoACgkQ7Ri2jRYZRVMNOACfbW0KuteVTbXI99+w+AV44I4J Ba8AnRkCcN1cFOsDyAD00QCSE9YgXCg1 =lwJA -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Bu8it7iiRSEf40bY-- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-bugs" in the body of the message
