The list says it's sorted by first name. Okay, first of all, this : _really_ should be family name, and with a comma it would work : equally well for names from any region (barring extraterrestrial, : most likely). Should be and is are two different things. : 2. The Japanese names are not consistent in the capitalization. Almost true. The Japanese spell their names with Kanji, or in extreme cases, with kana. Since neither of these these has any notion of upper vs lower case, it is hard to know what to do when rendering them into romanji, which lead so to... : 3. In addition to that, some of the Japanese names have the family : name first, some have the family name last, and others have : it one way or the other with completely different capitalization. Yes. Some people like to have it be a faithful rendering of the name, which leads to FAMILY Given, others have feel that a slightly different standard of FAMILY, Given fits in better with those in the west, while a third group of people want to fit in even more by going to Given Family or even Family Given and put up with being called Mr. Given. I don't think you'll be able to easily get all of them right and into the same standard unless you conteact everybody on the list you are in doubt of and ask. To this day, I don't know if Satoshi Asami-san's given name is Satoshi or Asami (I think it is Satoshi).
