Hi Alexus,

Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it. How about the Adaptec 2400A
IDE RAID controller? Have you tested this on your FreeBSD machines? I heard
that 3Ware is discontinuing it's Escalade product line -- I might get the
Adaptec controller instead.

i run 3ware.. maybe some people will disagree with me here.. but 3ware is
*the* shitiest raid controller i had to deal with..
i'm used to use escalade 6800 and now i'm using escalede 7800

as far per card itself.. they are ok, especially 7800, very fast.. as far as
support from bsd itself.. its fine too

what's i really dont like about them is support from 3ware themself

they released buggy utility and i've been running 3ware for a year now and
for this whole year they released 2 new versions, which not all bug was
fixed here is the most important one.. for some reason sometimes (most of
the time) it will *NOT* let you rebuild RAID on the fly, you'll have to
restart your computer into bios set to do it there and restart it again... i
can't realy on that many reboot on production machines.. so for 3ware i can
say NO

adaptec on another hand.. i have 3200s and i never ever had anyproblem..
however one minus i found is that their utility made for X windows and not
for web as 3ware.. so you need to have X server/client in order to manage
your controller remotely

other then that both cards are good
