This sounds very similar to the same problem I was having compiling
the DCE sources (link > 64MB).  The problem I was having was with the 
resource settings for my user in login.conf(5).  Check the output of 
'ulimit -a' or 'limits'.  If you still have problems linking and if
you are running X, try the link from a console and see if it works
(I'm not sure what to do with the xuser record).
