It requires thicknet transceivers with "vampire taps" and transceiver cables (which can be up to 50 meters long) to attach to a device. You could also try fiber-optic, but that's quite expensive. There are some good wireless solutions available also: your choice would depend greatly on the level of security you require and your budget constraint, but you may not find the technology you need to implement it. ps: I'm no networking expert, just a student, and we just covered this stuff in class....
