Firstly, don't reply to existing threads when starting a new topic.

It sounds like you've either built syslogd with processor-specific
optimizations which are unsuitable for your CPU, or the binary has
become corrupted somehow.  Correct or unset CPUTYPE from
/etc/make.conf and see if the problem goes away when you recompile it.
