We've just bought a Quantum DLT4700 drive. This is a DLT4000 work horse with a seven tape changer built in. Guess what? Both the st(4) and the ch(4) device drivers work nicely with it. It is identified at boot time thus: (ahc0:5:0): "Quantum DLT4700 CF5F" type 1 removable SCSI 2 st0(ahc0:5:0): Sequential-Access density code 0x1a, drive empty (ahc0:5:1): "Quantum TZ Media Changer CF5F" type 8 removable SCSI 2 ch0(ahc0:5:1): Medium-Changer 7 slots, 1 drive, 1 picker I can perform such magic on it as: chio move slot 5 drive 0 Load the tape in slot 5. chio move drive 0 slot 5 Unload the tape and put the it into slot 5. The manual page for ch(4) currently states that noone has tested this device. Let it be known that it works :) Also the section on tape drives in the handbook (10.5.5. Tape drives) can be updated to include this tape machine. And I cry out all over the land, "FreeBSD rocks ;)" Joe -- Josef Karthauser Technical Manager FreeBSD: The power to serve (http://www.uk.freebsd.org) Pavilion Internet plc.
