It's certainly a win against programmed transfer in a computer which doesn't wait for every transfer. SCSI is still faster for a multi-user system, but IDE has a lot going for it nowadays. You saw the figures: my make world was significantly faster with IDE than with SCSI. On the other hand, the system time was a little longer, which suggests that the transfers aren't quite as efficient.
