Date: Thu, 04 Feb 1999 19:59:13 -0800 I have a Digiboard "dumb" 8 port multiport card installed in a FBSD 2.2.8 box, correctly configured and showing all ports, ports test fine for dial out via modem and dial in via modem (all ttydx, cuaax and related /dev files created). Okay. I wanted to direct-connect a 386 PC via a null modem cable (see FBSD Handbook section 14.2.2.1 Cables) connected to the com1 (db-25) PC serial port (at 2400Bd according to the MSD diagnostic Utility) and connected to the third serial port of the digiboard octopus cable (db-25). I am using qmodem 4.6 comm s/w configured as vt100 at 2400Bd 8,n,1, but I cannot get any screen on the PC, not even if I switch term emulation from vt100 to TTY at same baud, etc. In ttys I have the serial line configured thus: ttyd3 "/usr/libexec/getty std.2400" vt100 on secure This port shows up with command: ps -ax in the PID list I have also played around with the term identifier changing it from vt100 to dialup, just to see if it made a difference. It did not. I do not get a login prompt on the pc/term screen. A db-25 line fault tester indicates traffic on the cable from the pc to the unix box but i do not get a login prompt (or did I say that already?) I have read and re-read the various man pgs and hbk and faqs, but Surely I am missing something here. This is a new installation and I am a new-bee (to FBSD). So folks, what am I missing or should I do to get this exercise home? Please do not suggest a switch to mgetty as I first need to finish with this issue. An e-mail reply would be preferred. thanks, .if. P.S. what da heck is ttyh0? MAKEDEV wont make it but it appears in the man page for ttys under v2.2.8. ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N=1 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-hardware" in the body of the message
