I was looking into using Soren's new ATA RAID code in a couple of applications. I was planning on building a test system to experiment with both generic and Promise RAID configurations. As I haven't worked with either yet, I have a big question upfront: Can I create a mirror volume on an existing system by installing a new drive on the secondary channel and then use atacontrol to create a mirror of the first drive? I can't find any information that would lead me to believe that this is possible. I'm taking the cautious approach that the mirrored volume pair must be created before a file system is put down on the volume. The ultimate purpose of this experiment is to prove whether or not it is possible to take my existing production systems, add a new drive and mirror the existing drive - all without having to rebuild filesystems or re-install. Any hints would be appreciated! --Jason To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
