I wrote the article on 26 December. The patches came out of my attempts to get my ATI XPERT card to work. AFAIK, the patches you just committed came from me. FWIW, When I contacted XFree86, they thought they had already committed these to their tree. Subsequent investigation showed their commits were incomplete so they were following it up.
