The answer is: of course it's necessary! How else would you keep your ports and src trees up to date? The CVS repository and your src/ports trees are not the same thing. The repository is the source from which you can update your src/ports trees. The difference is that, if you're maintaining a local copy of the CVS repository, then you would update your ports and src trees from the local CVS repo using cvs instead of csup. Somehow, I don't think you meant to grab the CVS repo. Sounds to me like you used the cvs-supfile by mistake. You *really* need to read the documentation more carefully. Everything you've been asking about recently is already explained in the Handbook. > the problem is that I have not > found such a manual on the web, so how are regular updates > in-STABLE?, just download everything from cvsup and ready?, will not > have to do the same thing to convert releases in stable right?, > because I mean regular updates. Your questions are not at all clear. Please be more precise about what you're asking. No one can help you if they can't even understand what it is you're asking for help with. Again, go back and read the Handbook sections on using csup, updating your src and ports trees, etc. No one is interested in repeating information that is already available in a complete and detailed form. -- Conrad J.
