It won't trash your data, but it will stomp over the MBR, M$ think
they're the only OSs in the world. It seems to look at a label in
the first few bytes of the MBR and if it finds ``MS'', ``DOS'', or
``WIN'' it seems to leave it alone (I recently re-installed 95 and
it didn't overwrite the MBR put there by NT).

It might be possible to save the MBR using dd(1), then boot from
the FreeBSD floppy or CD and then dd(1) it nack after installing
98, but I'm not 100% sure so I'd get confirmation before trying
it.

If you've got (or can get) a copy of Norton Utilities or similar
that will allow you to back up your MBR and restore it.
