What I did was the following: Have two login sessions on the machine then: 1) make a backup copy of /etc 2) kill the sendmail process since mail will be returned unknown. 3) cd /usr/temp 4) ftp each distribution separately in 2.1.7-RELEASE 5) chmod +x * ; ./install.sh 6) rm -rf * 7) repeat steps 4-7 8) cd /etc 9) compare backup copy of /etc to the new copy and commit the diffs make sure you restore the master.passwd, passwd, pwd.db, spwd.db from the backup to /etc 10) Compile a new kernel and shutdown and reboot the machine.
