This is true -- however the default configuration of egcs on FreeBSD
creates a g++ binary which does not recognize the -pthread flag, and
neither the egcs package's eg++ nor the pgcc port's eg++ recognize it.


prompt> eg++ -pthread myfile.cpp
eg++: unrecognized option `-pthread'
