I haven't been doing it, either when building kernels or >buildworld's... What I know is this about kernel builds. The 3.0 config doesn't wipe out the entire compile directory any more. One of the main developers told me that because of this it is imperative to "make depend" prior to building. More than that I can't explain. My "make" book is at a friends house.
