Who told you?

You aren't qualified to make a decision. :)

All this can be avoided if you just ask before committing a new port.
Looking at the linux-base port, you didn't even bother running
portlint on it before committing.  I'll have to conclude that you
aren't yet ready to commit ports to the tree.

I just saw you commit linux-devel in the middle of a discussion.  I
(as the ports master) request you immediately stop your commits to the
ports tree and submit all changes you wish to make to the -ports list.
(I don't want to resort to drastic measures like this but the name of
a new port's directory is about the only thing that can't be fixed
after ANY initial commit -- it will get in the way of future
repository copies.)

When Mike Smith proposed your commit bits, I wasn't aware of the fact
that you were planning to make any commits to the ports area.
Otherwise I would have made sure you understand all the bits and ropes
(or whatever tools you use to do stuff) around here.  Sorry, I will be
more careful in the future.
