A friend of mine also get SEGV when using Linux programs, under 2.2-BETA I
think. I don't know how to fix that as both my work and home machines don't
have this problem.

I don't think it is using it when you run acroread. Netscape is able to run
acroread when fetching a PDF file that's all. FWIW I have 3.0 and 3.01
BSD/OS versions.
