Technically, there is a fully open-source graphics stack. The bad news is that they moved the functionality into the binary-only firmware, which makes fixing bugs a bit more difficult. I haven't hunted down the actual code, much less looked at it, but if all the functionality is in the firmware, there shouldn't be much code that needs to be ported to BSD.
