Andrew: I'm no expert, but have been asking the same question. As far as I can tell, there is no smbmount for FreeBSD. I searched on www.freebsd.org, and did turn up a message from Sept99 saying that development of it had been turned over to someone, but found no other references or status. There is a free product called Sharity-Light in the ports. They sell a full product called Sharity. Two major limitations of Sharity-Light are it will not do encrypted passwords or multiple shares from same server. Therefore it's pretty much useless for me. On www.samba.org they mention something called smbsh, that runs in user space. I haven't been able to find any mention of that in relation to FreeBSD. I asked questions about it here and on samba, but no one replied about that question. If you find out anything else, please let me know.
