There is a tool called Ziptool available at:

http://www.torque.net/linux-pp.html

(Look in the Iomega Zip drive section)

I am told that it compiles with little or no modifications under FreeBSD,
and will work with Jaz drives as well.  It is a tool that lets you diddle
with the Iomega protection bits, incuding disabling them.
