I think I have got a working build by taking out the BROKEN line and copying ppc with respect to no asm in configure line. I have tested it over VNC session and get the occasional green flicker, but I think that's VNC causing that rather than mplayer fault. ffmpeg on the other hand dies straight away... still looking into that.
