Okay, I got an explicit clarification for the licensing issue
from an experienced FreeBSD developer:

Using GPL/MIT licensed headers is fine though they may have to be placed
eventually in "contrib" directories.

Also, it was clarified that FreeBSD uses DTB files (or maybe rather dts
files) from other projects. So this is fine as well. No need to write
them from the scratch.

(this was told in a discussion on an IRC channel, I can show you logs
in a private message if you request it)
