I just checked the ports and did not see any chat servers for FreeBSD. It can be commercial. For a sample of what I am looking for see www.ichat.com That software seems to do what I want, but it is extremly expensive even in the entry level. For that type of money I would only do it ($500/50 users) if it was for a business purpose/venture not just to have a chat system for friends.
