Every time I try to lpr a file, I get this:

May  5 20:29:39 limbo lpd[8543]: restarting lp
May  5 20:29:48 limbo last message repeated 3 times
May  5 20:29:51 limbo lpd[8543]: lp: job could not be printed (cfA012limbo)
May  5 20:29:52 limbo lpd[8543]: mail sent to user nathan about job lap1.txt on printer lp (FATALERR)

Then, lpd puts Microsoft to shame with the most ambiguous error
message I've ever seen:

Successfully made me bash head against keyboard and attempt to
tear out remaining hair. :-) The *really* good part, though,
is that cat file.txt > /dev/lpt0 works fine. I'm using the
apsfilter port (because I like the way it a2ps'es them and how
it makes me think I have a PS printer), and have been for quite
some time. This recent breakage is something new. The message
given to me by lpq and lpc is Waiting for printer to become
ready (offline)? I've reinstalled apsfilter and lpr/lpd with no
avail; any suggestions?
