I think the Radeon kernel driver is the best option here: if we get it to work, the entire graphics stack and vt(4) will work. For instance, your Sun XVR-100 card is listed as supported. I tried to build it on sparc64 and some APIs are missing. The first failure is the lack of some atomic operations, such as atomic_swap_*.
