I had a similar problem. Somewhere around version 4.0 wd changed to ad. What I did was boot from the cdrom, go into fixit mode, then mounted the drive and changed the /etc/fstab file. Now that I am running 4.3S I find that as long as the drivers are in /dev my fstab file can be setup with wd _or_ ad.
