            Bug ID: 208416
Summary: net-p2p/transmission-daemon requires some settings in
                    rc.conf
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Many People
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: crees@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: isaac@waldronis.com
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(crees@FreeBSD.org)
          Assignee: crees@FreeBSD.org

This port forces you to set some settings through variables in rc.conf beca=
use
it does not provide a way to unset or disable setting them through the rc
variables. For example, a default value is set for the
transmission_download_dir variable but there is no way to unset this so that
the value in transmission's settings.json file will be honored. To reprodu=
ce
this behavior:

1. remove any transmission_download_dir setting in /etc/rc.conf
2. stop the transmission service
3. edit transmission's settings.json file and set the download-dir setting =
to
some non-standard location
4. start the transmission service

At this point settings.json will be overwritten with the default value set =
in
transmission's rc.d script. Replacing step 1 in the above procedure with '=
set
transmission_download=3D"NO" in rc.conf', as is the common practice for dis=
abling
settings in rc.conf, results in the download directory being set to the lit=
eral
"NO." I would prefer that a setting of "NO" translate to the -w flag being
left out of transmission_flags so that the value of download-dir in
settings.json is retained on starting the daemon.
