Linux has multiple distributions that use the same kernel. The fact that freebsd only has one distribution doesn't make it any more complete. Performance is markedly different as well. If you only need to do trivial things, then both are suitable. So is Windows or Solaris. Otherwise you just have no idea what you're talking about.
